Hmmm...
I just noticed that the Lanner doesn't seem to have any exhaust animations except for main engines. No manouvering thrusters and no retro thrusters. Does this mean that I can put these thrusters anywhere I like in the model?

I'm afraid no. Formally you may add some thrusters and put them anywhere, but they will not work. Right now we have no possibility to change geometry of exhausts. Though our lead programmer (Dreamzz) promises to solve this problem.

I didn't think that they would work, I just wanted to make sure that I don't place thrusters somewhere where I think it looks cool and in the end I have exhaust plumes shooting out somewhere else. That would look truly ridicoulus...

It looks you're right and Lanner has exhaust animations only for main engines...

So we have 2 options:
1. Dreamzz will make all animation visible before corecting collision model. And UncleBob should to place thrusters to the same places where they are now.
2. Dreamzz will make all animation visible after corecting collision model. So UncleBob can place thrusters anywhere for better look of the model.
I like v.2. But it's a choise of community and Dreamzz. Maybe it will cause some bugs.

uh, I'd opt for Version 2, since the mesh is allmost finished by now. Will post some screenies shortly, plus I have some questions on how to go on.
first thing is animations. any tutorials about it? I never did animations so far (well, not that sort of vertex-baking animation I suspect the .x file uses... But I'm not even certain of that, so a few pointers would be really great).
Second is about maps. As soon as I finished the mesh, I'll start texturing, but texturing usually is not everything there is to map. So what kinds of maps do you require to come with a model? bump maps? speculiar maps? normal maps? all of them?
Also I want to make sure that I understood the auto-translated instructions right. The Lanner is to have between 1700 and 2500 FACES (triangles), not polygons, right? that's including the landing gear, I suppose?

Meshwork on the Lanner MkI pretty much finished, if no one has objections to the way it looks currently, that is. Current facecount is 2387, so I can't add much more. I'll need those 100 spare faces to make her into the Lanner MkII later.
Bob from the shipyards described the Lanner as a pretty ugly ship, "a box with thrusters straped on it". I think he was a bit out of his mind, since I found the base lines of the ship rather tricky to get right. I tried to give it the utilitarian look it is supposed to have, but most of that will be done with textures. So far it looks like this:
The undercarriage might still change a little when I do the animations to make it work right, the rest will stay as is if noone complains.

IMHO - the top ... better made more streamlined.
Plus or minus a hundred or two - not so important.

I was thinking about making her more streamlined, but it doesn't fit the description in the manual at all... I can still do it (allthough at the expense of probably 200 to 300 faces), you guys have to decide. Make her more elegant, or stick to Bobs discription in the manual?
and what is it you want to tell me with the red circles? should I refine a bit more at these places?

You know what happens when a fat woman tries to dress up elegantly? right... she looks even more fat!
turns out that the same aplies also for spaceships. I put quite some effort into making the lanner more elegant, as a result she now looks like a big fat cow... and thus exactly as she is suposed to look. In a way she's indeed uglier than before, but in a way I really like. But judge for yourselfes, and tell me if you like it:

Currently 2506, but it's mirrored, in case I have to do some further adjustements. Once I weld all vertices on the mirror line it's going to be around 2450.
