Been away over the weekend. lots of work, but I'll have a day off tomorrow
Anyways, I think there has been a slight misunderstanding Jahell. You uploaded the exact model I had uploaded. What I'd like is another, finished model, so I can study how the animation has been done. I'll try to explain in bosnian, since it's slavic tongue and you should understand at least as much of it as I understand rushian...
Što ja tražim je neki gotov model na kojim animacija je već urađena, tako da vidim kako se radi tako da na kraju i radi u igri.
Ovo bi barem trebalo dobro proći u google translatoru, po što je gramatika ruskog i bosanskog jezika skoro isto... nadam se.

No, errors are not present, I have checked up. In a file, which I have sent, the forward chassis is animated, it is necessary to do the same with the others.

Sorry, my fault. I opened the wrong zip-file, the one that I uploaded and still had lying around on the desktop.
However, when I try to open your file, 3dsMax cannot even open it, like when a file is damaged. It might be that something went wrong on upload (I downloaded it twice to make sure there was no corruption on download), otherwise I don't know... If you download the file again you uploaded, can you open it? if yes, something's screwed up on my end...
If it doesn't open for you either, upload it again, please.

At me Max2009, probably incompatibility of versions.

Possible. I have 3dsMax 9, which would be something like released in 2004, methinks. Do you have an option to save it compatible for older versions?

So, errm... what are we going to do about the lanner? I still haven't got it working, and I can't open Jahells file in 3dsmax 9. does somebody have a compatible version, can someone write up a tutorial (in russian if not possible any other way, I should be able to understand it more or less...), or, if all else fails, can somebody else finish up the model? (in that case, wait a moment... I'll try to correct the dimensions before you finish it up, she's still a bit too slender currently).

hi finally i arrived in russia, grandpa must have lost some steps here and quiet a few other things

i think not all ships should have a landing gear with wheels, the game is dated in 36th century not 20th, get away from that common airfighter look! (i don't like)
uncle bob, all kind ships land sometimes under or sometimes 20 meters above the surface, it's a game and also a module and model related problem. i mean it has nothing to do with the alignment or size of the model, it's a problem of how objects on planets surface been genareted (by coordinates relative to center) and planets surface objects are planar while the surface is crumbled and of spherical shape. if you look close to the original game you will recognize that planet surface objects are below the the "real surface" (and sometimes above, depends on codet position) only terrain is "cut out" (transparent) so it looks like the object would be on surface and not below. now we have FFED3D with solid models instead of coordinate based linedrawings, now you got this problem.
in frontier "real" size of a planet is bound to it's mass and not to the size of the model or the surface of the sphere (so generated surface is sometimes above or under "real surface"), you can imagine that it's hard to code the right coordinates for a quasi randomly positioned city or spaceport.
and you land unfortunatly on "real surface" which is always above or under.
but i will keep a finger on that problem and maybe get a solution.
i think we should simply position the city and spaceport models a little lower then the original, cause if you stand above, it looks far better then below.

i should make a video of my courier/trader, then everyone can see, how the landing gear together with rotating engine tips looks and both models work fine together in FFED3D, ha.

the shading problem i had, (effect.fx) i solved it nearly myself,
now i know how to flat shade or changing the light quality, only a little thing is not to clear, i can't put it in a way so that the specularity is displayed right (related to view) without having a throughout light if i place the model in front of a lightsource, but i will find out soon how it works.

All ships may be different.
Not all of our ships have landing gear. And not all of the original ships.
If the ship will be better - why not?
With this thing still has problems... Perhaps they will decided in the future. And some others.

the reason is i will primarely set specularity how it's been in real life, try to look at a glossy object from different angles and you see what i mean, specularity is view angle related, cause our eyes can catch only light directions aligned to view (i explained that somewhere else). anything else is o.k, bit to much color saturation in the light, but thats my opinion (fixed it for my purpose), i like the absolute shade, cause in space you don't have "stray light".
it would further be very helpful for me if i would knew all options/expressions for tris.ini, is there a thread to this on elite-games or do i have to clutter it all by myself together

Oh, sorry. About effect.fx can someone to explain it later. There is something can work, something - no. I confused it with tris.ini.
Im (unfortunately), not a programmer or a modeller.
About tris.ini - things were bad. I could not take advantage of this in the latest version.
There is a other build (technical build) where the bug is fixed ... - But it is not available to all. We are waiting for the next version.

Hey, thanks alot for finishing her. I was looking around for the new Max version, but it's hard to come by here...
Just one question: How do I get rid of the old landing gear and the old nacelles in the game? when I put my lanner into the folder 41, everything works nice, but I still have the old stuff visible in game.

In the "FFE D3D (1.12b+) (v.1: 04nov2009) 150Mb" - folder "-Arhive". Take "model.X - модель-пустышка" (or made your own micro-micro model) and rename: "model.X".
Place it file in folder:
Models\ 191
Models\ 206
