Shaders introduced in patch 1.12. If the card does not support shaders, just do not use the game.
Zagruzhaeyutsya from the file directory effect.fx model. Examples are from Medel 31 (Saker) and 131 (starting planet). The main function of "Main", one pass.

General parameters:
float4x4 viewprojmat - matrix multiplication and projection type

I gather from this i can specify different maps (skin8-10.png?)and use them to add more control to the shader. If thats correct, does anyone have any example code to add bump and specular mapping to the effect.fx? I've been experimenting and i can't seem to get anything to work.

Hi Headhunter,
I am fine with your advice. Having an complete archive of the game would be usefull indeed.
By the way, I was looking into possibilities to alter the fx further but, I found out, that the usage appears to be rather limited. the engine sound for instance only uses a single wave and bends it according to the scene (speed). THe "station.raw" is operating with a sample less than one second and repeats that frame continously. My guess is, that it needs a completely reworked sound-engine to ad some awesome sound dimensions to this beautyfull rework of Elite. Is there an general progress regarding the re-coding of the game dispite all these partly breathtaking ship and enviroment modeling ? ( really great work congrats to evryone involved)

mespotine hasn't written anything, yet.. - ОК!
I'll put the sound files in the folder "MODS" (you will see what this) in the Archive.
And the SteveT models, too. Unpack and placed in the folder "MODS".
If the authors will have questions\requests\requirements - I can delete or fix their files.
(Some of the files in the MODS-folder temporarily - arrange them later.)
Archive will be tomorrow or a little later. I hope.
Approximate size (zip or rar) - 147Mb.
(I'll try to make a 7z-copy (when\if I can).)

Hi again,
I think it is a good idea to have all the files in one archive.
What about an Windows-installer, that will put all the files where they belong ( automated or user-defined ), possibly with an automated checking for available updates such as new exe -files, skins/sounds/ships/ressources etc.
I got some spare time during the coming winter days, I should be able to build that piece of software. Would that be interesting ?

well it depends..
It is only important to create a database and that needs to be updated. It would have an array for datafiles , skins etc. This can be done with an incremental logic within the database. Whenever something changes, the installer, wich is checking that base, will add/replace the specific files on demand. If there is a major update for instance, the whole installer will be replaced. But as it is still a beta phase, this can be implemented.

...No doubt about that! Possibly I find time to manage the installer. Regarding the database, it will be just a little piece of cake. Additionally there should be an administrative front-end
and of course there has to be agreed about a logical system regarding the file-versions, (incremental numbers as an example) to get a common frame of reference. I take it that there are more than a handfull people involved into your project ? Consider this to be an offer I think users will love the simplicity of an installer, having no need to search for every single piece of update

Lanner Enterprises appologises for the very belated delivery of the MKI. Now that we finally got around to finish the darn thing, we're still experiencing some technical difficulties, see the image:
Can anyone tell me what I have to do to get the thing into the game correctly AND make the animation work? (in 3dsMax, it works...)

allright, I understood that I have to take the model appart. The first problem is getting it together again. Is there some other way than just try and error (which takes ages).
The second problem is that it seems neccessary that things fit exactly to the old model (for example, the nacelles underneath must have the exact same distance). Allthough I made my model after reference pictures of the original, it is impossible to get everything exactly right. So now my nacelles are a bit further apart, which obviously leads to trouble. Do you have the possibility to adjust these things in the code, or do I have to redo the model? (which would be kind of a shock after finally finishing it. Plus, I doubt I'd get it exactly right the next time. And try and error isn't a very efficient method...)

Certainly there is no necessity to create your model absolutely similar to the old one. The only one strict requirement for all new models is possibility to be easily recognized. As for details you have relative freedom
